Meet David Rakecky
David Rakecky is the founder of Tetra Home Loans and its sister firm, Tetra Wealth, based in Grosse Pointe Shores and serving buyers, homeowners, and families across the Grosse Pointes and Metro Detroit. He holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and has six years of experience in the mortgage industry, with additional experience as a financial advisor.
David graduated cum laude from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Flight Technology and went on to work as a flight instructor at EMU. The discipline aviation demands — checklists, preparation, treating every detail as consequential — is something he carried directly into his work with clients.
David lives in Grosse Pointe Shores with his wife Danielle. They are expecting their first son in July and are active parishioners at St. Paul on the Lake.
Why Tetra Exists
The short version is that David spent years inside the large-lender and corporate-advisor model and walked away convinced there was a better way to do this work.
Flight Instructor at Eastern Michigan University
David graduated cum laude from EMU with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Flight Technology and stayed on as a flight instructor. Aviation taught him a work ethic that stuck: run the checklist every time, prepare for the things you hope will not happen, never skip steps because it is convenient. But the career path ahead meant being away from home two or three weeks a month, and that is not the family life he wanted to build.
High Volume, Higher Pressure
David's first move into mortgages was with a major lender, working front-end with a high volume of clients. The sales goals were aggressive, and the pressure to hit quotas sometimes pushed the team toward decisions that were good for the monthly numbers but not always for the client. He knew early on it was not a long-term fit.
Expanding Into Broader Financial Planning
Working with people on their finances was a natural next step, so David moved into financial advising. He gained deeper expertise on tax strategy, retirement, and long-term wealth building — but ran into the same problem. The volume expectations and sales goals at corporate firms were designed to serve shareholders first, not clients.

David founded Tetra Home Loans and its sister firm Tetra Wealth, then earned the CFP® designation to bring those two worlds together under one roof. A mortgage is not a standalone product. It is one of the largest financial decisions a household makes, and it should be structured inside a coherent financial plan — not sold off a rate sheet.

Outside of Work
David is a lifelong Michigander and has made Grosse Pointe Shores home with his wife Danielle. When he is not working with clients, he is usually on the water, up north, or at church.
The family is expecting their first son in July — a milestone that has only reinforced the kind of business David wants to build and the kind of relationships he wants to have with the people he serves.
